What could be more refreshing than a limeade cocktail in summer? How about one that blends the sweet-tart flavor of limeade with tropical coconut? This unbeatable combination we’re featuring today is an easy-to-make and craving-worthy coconut vodka drink made with Ciroc coconut vodka.
My new favorite summer sipper is a Ciroc coconut cocktail with just four ingredients. And it’s bursting with bold flavors. In addition to the tartness of fresh lime and the sweetness of coconut, there’s a hint of muddled basil to give the drink the essence of a summertime garden.
Technically, you could call this drink recipe a basil smash, since it featured muddled basil, simple syrup, lime and vodka, which are the traditional ingredients of a summery smash. Of course, it’s a basil smash with a twist since we’ve swapped out ordinary vodka for smooth and sexy coconut vodka, the ingredient that makes this summer cocktail so memorable.
Since this drink with limeade is so simple – just four ingredients – the important thing is to use quality ingredients. Fresh, garden basil is best if you can grow it. (Basil also grows beautifully on a windowsill.) If the basil is store-bought, opt for organic. The same goes for the lime.
The only other two ingredients in this tart and tangy cocktail with limeade are simple syrup and coconut vodka.
How to make simple syrup
Simple syrup is really as simple as the name implies. It’s just equal parts sugar and water. Add the sugar and water to a small saucepan over medium heat. If you just want to make a few cocktails, 1/2 cup of each is plenty. But simple syrup can be stored in the refrigerator for up to one month, so you may want to make more.
Stir the sugar in the saucepan of water until it is completely dissolved. After the syrup has cooled, transfer it to a jar with a lid and store it in the refrigerator. The syrup must be completely cooled before you use it in cocktails.
What vodka should you use for this vodka limeade drink?
We use Ciroc coconut vodka to make this basil and lime cocktail. This vodka is five times distilled before infused with natural coconut. (It is also a gluten-free vodka.)
The vodka is nice on the rocks, too, but we really like it in this cocktail with limeade. This is our favorite coconut Ciroc recipe. That being said, if you prefer another coconut vodka, by all means, use your favorite.
Putting it together
You are going to need a little bit of equipment to put this vodka cocktail together. The drink should be shaken, so make sure you have a sturdy cocktail shaker. I like this shaker from OXO.
You’re also going to need a muddler. I prefer using a stainless steel muddler because they’re easy to clean. A muddler is a tool you use to break down ingredients directly in the shaker or mixing glass. The tool’s job is to extract juices and oils and add their essence to a drink. In this case, we’re muddling the lime for its juice and the oil in its skin as well as the oil in the basil leaves.
Once the lime and basil are muddled, you simply add the vodka, simple syrup and ice then shake. The mixed drink should be strained into the glass and served immediately for a burst of summer flavor.
The goal at Eat Something Sexy is to offer drink recipes that pair with a night of seduction. And I think this cocktail recipe ticks the boxes remarkably well.
All alcohol is considered an aphrodisiac for its power to lower inhibitions, but I look for drinks that offer something more. And this limeade vodka cocktail unquestionably delivers. Three of the four ingredients are considered aphrodisiacs if you count the vodka.
Did you know that basil is historically considered an aphrodisiac food? Not only that but fresh lime juice is on the list of the best foods for women’s sexual health. If you like the flavors of fresh herbs and citrus juice, I think this could be your new summer seduction drink.
